The laser-sharp and bold Neko Case returns to Edmonton May 7, promoting her latest album Hell-On, which was inspired by her home burning down while she was on tour.
“It felt like this was an out-of-time Jacques Cousteau undersea expedition through a sunken World War II ship. Of course there’s some shit I miss,” she says, citing family photographs and a favourite sweater. “But none of it matters.”
Case’s long and wonderful career includes amazing songs like I Wish I Was the Moon, Deep Red Bells, Maybe Sparrow and a cover of Wayfaring Stranger better than the original.
Well-loved for her collaborations with k.d. lang, the New Pornographers, Calexico and the Sadies, she’s been through town many times since the mid-’90s, including a couple mainstage spots at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, one especially good one this past summer.
Starting at $40, tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through winspearcentre.com. And be prepared for adult language, that’s kind of one of the best things about her.
