Laura Rain and the Caesars: It’s Halloween night, which means many will either take their costumed candy fiends door to door begging the neighbours for sugar, or simply stay home to dole out the sweets themselves. Good thing Laura Rain and the Caesars don’t take the stage until 9 p.m. Kicking off a five-night stint at Blues on Whyte, expect a gaggle of ghouls and goblins to show up to see the Detroit-based four-piece, fronted by Rain’s funky approach and powerhouse R&B vocals that should get the whole place shaking, costumes or not.

Details: 9 p.m. Blues on Whyte, free of charge

The Phantom of the Opera: Phantom has taken many forms over the years, leaping from the printed page to stages and screens of various shapes and sizes, but you’ve probably never seen it quite like this. Renowned silent film accompanist Dennis James takes over the 6,551-pipe Davis Concert Organ as Rupert Julian’s 1925 horror flick plays above the Winspear stage, accompanying the deformed Phantom — played by Lon Chaney, who also starred in 1923’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, another James soundtrack specialty — throughout the Paris Opera House.

Details: 8 p.m. Winspear Centre, $30, available at the door or in advance from the Winspear website

Halloween Mash: Metro Cinema’s fifth annual Halloween Mash features two creepy three-dimensional classics from the 1950s. First up, Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) is a far cry from 1980’s Blue Lagoon and set a new standard for hyperbolic taglines: “Not since the beginning of time has the world beheld terror like this!” House of Wax (1954) — not to be confused with the 2005 remake starring Paris Hilton — was the first color 3-D film released by a major American studio, evinced by its tagline: “You’ve never been scared until you’ve been scared in 3-D.”

Details: 7 p.m. Metro Cinema, $13, available at the box office or in advance from the Metro Cinema website
